On August 26, at the 4th World New Energy Vehicle Conference (WNEVC 2022), we photographed the actual car of the Chinese version of Hyundai Nexo. The car uses hydrogen fuel cell technology, which produces only clean water from its emissions. The hydrogen can be replenished within five minutes, with a cruising range of about 866km.

In terms of appearance, the previously unveiled Hyundai Nexo uses a mesh grille with a blackened grille, making its front face look very fierce and wild. In addition, it also uses a bright strip to separate the two sides. The headlights are connected into one body, making the front face look more classy and more refined and beautiful than the Bo Yue. In addition, the front bumper with unique shape below brings a strong sporty atmosphere.

In terms of size, the length, width and height are 4670×1860×1630 mm, and the wheelbase reaches 2790 mm, which is larger than the Volkswagen Tiguan of the same class. The data is enough to show its superiority in space. . On the side of the body, the car adopts a hidden door handle design, and the car also uses five-star two-color wheels, making the car look more dynamic.

In the rear part of the car, the shape of the car's rear is very rounded, and the taillights on both sides are very unique. The Fuel Cell below highlights its identity as a fuel cell vehicle.

The interior of Hyundai Nexo is the real protagonist here. Its interior is all plain leather, which feels very good. The steering wheel is wrapped in real leather. A horizontal faux-metal strip that contains the air outlets runs across the dashboard, and there's similar trim on the door panels. The large raised center console is one of the most exciting parts of the interior. A bunch of analog buttons and knobs give it a full technological atmosphere.

A 7-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch center screen are standard, and the main infotainment display can be controlled via touch or a knob on the console. The dashboard can display things like navigation information, trip data, or a personal preference of energy flow graphics to show exactly how the powertrain is working.

The navigation system will display the nearest hydrogen refueling station and even give fuel prices. If the destination you enter is farther than your current cruising range, the system will change the route and let you stop at a gas station along the way. There's also a screen that displays the status of the hydrogen tank and fuel cell, as well as detailed eco-driving data.

Nexo has two power sources, a fuel cell (100kW) in front of the engine and a high-voltage battery (20kW) under the cockpit. Hyundai Nexo has three hydrogen storage tanks, which can store a total of 6.3kg of high-pressure gaseous hydrogen. This hydrogen is enough to allow Nexo to run 866km (NEDC operating conditions), and the hydrogen can be replenished within five minutes.

As for safety issues, the hydrogen storage tank is made of carbon fiber, which is stronger than steel. It is of high quality and can withstand high pressure; it adopts a collision force buffering device and a special coating technology that can withstand flames for a long time. It has also undergone many rigorous safety tests and a 12,000-hour 875bar hydrogenation test, so it is strong enough.
