On July 11, at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, a new generation of MG HS (domestic equivalent of MG Pilot) was officially released. The new car is based on the domestic Roewe RX5 model and adopts a new design language. It will provide fuel and plug-in hybrid versions in terms of power. After it is launched, it will compete with Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5 and other models. It is reported that the new car will be unveiled at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed and is expected to be first launched in the Australian market at the end of 2024.
In terms of appearance, the headlights of the new car adopt a long and narrow design and are connected by through-type decorative strips. The front enclosure of the new car uses large-size heat dissipation openings and is matched with a dot-matrix grille shape. The new car also adopts a half-pack style ventilation opening design on both sides of the front, making the overall shape more fashionable.
On the side of the body, the new car adopts a double-section waistline design. The front waistline runs through to the rear door, and the rear waistline extends to the taillights. The concave ribs in the door and the thick side skirts form a good impression. The front and rear fenders adopt a combination of double rib lines + black wheel eyebrows, and are equipped with double five-spoke 19-inch wheels. In terms of body size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4636/1890/1720mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2750mm.
In the rear part of the car, the new car is equipped with a roof spoiler and a rear window wiper. The taillight group adopts a through-type shape. The main style of the taillights on both sides is highly recognizable when lit. The rear surround of the new car has a multi-layer structure, and is equipped with a rear diffuser decorative panel and an exhaust layout with two exhaust outlets on both sides.
In terms of interior, the new car adopts a dual 12.3-inch curved screen design, and is equipped with a newly designed three-spoke multi-function steering wheel and electronic shifting mechanism. In terms of configuration, the new car will provide Apple Carplay, Android Auto, wireless charging, electrically adjustable seats, eight speakers, 360-degree cameras, and keyless entry and start.
In terms of safety configuration, the new car is equipped with functions such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, lane center assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and door opening warning.
In terms of power, the new car will provide a pure fuel version and a plug-in hybrid version. The fuel version is equipped with a 1.5T turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The European version has a maximum power of 125 kilowatts and a maximum torque of 275 Nm. The transmission system is matched with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox; the Australian version has a maximum power of 119 kilowatts, maximum torque of 250 N·m, and the transmission system is only equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. It is worth mentioning that the Australian market will also provide a 2.0T turbocharged engine paired with a 9-speed manual transmission.
In the plug-in version, 1.5 will be usedT engine + electric motor form a plug-in hybrid system. The maximum power of the engine is 105 kilowatts, and the maximum power of the electric motor is 154 kilowatts. The 0-100km/h acceleration time is only 6.8 seconds. In terms of battery life, the new car will be equipped with a 24.7kWh battery pack, and the pure electric cruising range is 120 kilometers. In some left-hand drive markets, the power and range parameters of plug-in hybrid models will be reduced.
